MORE ABOUT SOCIAL NETWORK SITES:
What is Myspace?
MySpace is a social networking website targeted at a general audience. Launched in 2003, it became one of the most visited websites in the world within a few years. With almost a billion visits per month, MySpace is the most popular social network. Utilizing a system of adding friends to your network, the ability to customize your profile, write blog entries, play favorite mp3 tracks (or upload up to six songs on a music profile), join
groups and enter discussions, MySpace allows users to interact in a way unparalleled before its emergence.
Madalyn's runs 5 Myspace pages: GoGirlsMusic.com, IndieMusicCoach, SocialNetworksForMusicians, GoGirls Houston Chapter and GoGirls Music Records
What is Facebook?
Facebook is a social utility that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them. People use Facebook to keep up with friends, upload an unlimited number of photos, share links and videos, and learn more about the people they meet. Bands can now set up a music page and promote themselves with songs, photos, video and more.
Madalyn uses her personal Facebook page to network with fellow music industry professionals as well as musicians.
What is Twitter?
Twitter is for staying in touch and keeping up with friends no matter where you are or what you’re doing. For some friends you might want instant mobile updates—for others, you can just check the web. Invite your friends to Twitter and decide how connected you want you to be. For bands, it's a great way to let your fans know what you're up to.
Madalyn loves Twitter and uses it for daily micro blogging. It's so cool that she can take a picture with her iPhone and email it to Twitpic which then posts the link and her message on her Twitter page. She updates her music biz and GoGirls page regularly and has even blogged directly from music conferences in real-time!
What is Flickr?
Flickr is an online photo management and sharing application. Its primary goals are to help people make photos available to those who matter to them, and to enable new ways of organizing pictures. You can join Flicker for free and begin sharing images immediately. Pro accounts are available for those who want to add and display high volumes of photos.
Madalyn utilizes Flickr for the GoGirlsMusic.com community. What makes this cool is that she can take a picture with her iPhone, immediately email it to Flickr so it's there in real-time. She can also select a photo and blog it directly from her iPhone!
What is Blogger?
Blogger is Google’s free tool for creating blogs. Blogs, short for web-logs, are a form of online journal. You can use blogs for everything from updating your friends and family about your life, giving your own advice column, discussing your political views, or relating your experience in a topic of interest. You can host blogs with multiple contributors, or you can run your own solo show.
Madalyn has been using Blogger since 2000. She writes frequently in her Madalyn's Music Biz Blog.
What is Wordpress?
WordPress is a free, open-source personal publishing system that allows you to easily create a complex blog, or web log, on your site. Written in PHP and supported by a MySQL database, WordPress offers intuitive administrative tools and sophisticated design features that make it easy to develop and integrate a personal or professional blog on your site.
Madalyn uses a Wordpress blog for the GoGirls Elite members.
